Bullet train in Brazil

The President of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said that most probably in October is going to start the bidding of the project of the bullet train. This project was created intending to reduce the traffic on the road and make affordable an fast transportation.

The train line should allow travel from one megalopolis to another in less than an hour and a half, compared with about an hour by plane and six hours by bus. The two cities are about 256 miles (430 km) apart.

The project is going to cost around U$ 9 Billion and will link Rio de Janeiro-Sao Paulo-Campinas. If approved the high speed rail route is projected to be of 500km and expend to 1,500km in the future where is going to link parts of Minas Gerais and Parana.

Japan, France, Germany and South Korea are the ones expected to enter the bidding. The bullet train is schedule to start in the beginning of 2009.
