Apparently the action of man against the nature is causing a lot of disturbance in the environment, even tropical countries like Brazil is having a little taste of mother earth’ fury. The shaking was felt in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Parana and Santa Catarina around 9PM on Tuesday April 22, 2008. The most widely accepted estimate for the magnitude of the earthquake is a moment magnitude (Mw) of 5.2, it was the sixth highest shaking registered in the history of the country.
The mainshock epicenter occurred 270 km from São Paulo and 218 km from São Vicente. The shaking in São Paulo also was registered by U.S. Geological Survey (USGC). The epicenter was registered on the sea, according to professor George França.
Based on what the chief of Seismic Observatory of Brasília University (UnB) said, it’s “impossible” to occur tsunamis because of the shaking, he considered improbable new shaking of same magnitude or larger, which believe that small others shaking might happen. According to chief of the observatory, the largest earthquake registered in Brazil was 6.2, in 1955.
The results of the tests aren’t finalized yet and no one knows what may had cause the shaking.
