Seleção knocks down Spain to second place. Portugal is in third.

The seleção commanded for Dunga comes back to the top after five months occupying the second position, Brazil outs Spain and assumed the top of Fifa’s ranking, in the new classification announced this Wednesday. Seleção Brasileira (name used for Brazil Soccer Team) assumes the top for the seventh time since the ranking was created, in 1993. Since then, the country remained on top for 142 months in the total.

Based on the rankings, the group G will be the strongest of the World of the World. Besides the leader, Brazil, the group counts on Portugal, that went up a position and now it is right behind Spain, in third, its better rank in history.

On the other hand, the Coreia of the north, Brazil’s adversary in the first game , is worse between all the teams that will dispute the World Cup , in 106ª position. The Ivory Coast, that complete the group, is in 27º place.

Between the ten first ones in Fifa’s ranking, the biggest advance was of Argentina, that jump from ninth to seventh position. France suffered the biggest fall, falling from eighth for tenth.

The April’s edition of the ranking only took in account five games, since not many official Fifa games happened and the national and international matches of the Europe are in its playoffs, what it make harder to schedule games between national teams.

A last-gasp Kaka penalty snatched Brazil a 4-3 victory over a courageous Egypt in an exhilarating Group B opener at Free State Stadium. Dunga’s side carried a two-goal cushion in at the break, but a quick-fire double had the Pharaohs level until the former FIFA World Player’s second goal of the game injury time.

It took Brazil just five minutes to break the deadlock. There appeared to be little danger when Daniel Alves’s dink found Kaka inside a congested penalty area, but the No10 subtly tricked his way past two opponents before casually sliding the ball home.

Egypt responded swiftly, with Mohamed Aboutrika’s right-wing cross being headed in by Mohamed Zidan, but they fell behind again on 12 minutes, when Luis Fabiano’s head guided an Elano free-kick into the bottom corner of the net.

Elano and Juan both came close to doubling A Seleção’s lead, before the latter did just that by heading home the former’s corner in the 37th minute.

Egypt refused to submit to their more illustrious opponents, though, and scored twice in two minutes to restore parity, Mohamed Shawky’s firm, low drive from the edge of the box preceding a 55th-minute strike from Zidan.

Both sides then had their chances, but the game appeared destined for a 3-3 draw. That was until goal-bound Lucio effort was handled on the line by Ahmed Al Muhamadi. The Egypitan defender was sent off, and Kaka coolly passed the ball into the bottom corner of Essam El Hadary’s net to ensure Dunga’s side made a wininng start to the defence of their crown.

Brazil 0 x 0 Argentina

Brazil faced Argentina yesterday for the World Cup 2010 qualifies and tie 0 to 0. The fans didn’t like what they paid for and booed the team the whole game, specially the coach, Dunga. After the bad result against Paraguay last week Brazilian fans were expecting a different game yesterday.

With the last results Brazil occupy the 5th place with 9 points in the qualifies. With only 50% of the points disputed Brazil’s position isn’t good because today Venezuela is going to face Chile and who else wins the match will pass Brazil in the qualifies.

Only the first four teams guarantee the participation in World CUP of South Africa 2010, the fifth team will need to face one Concacaf opponent to the last spot, something that never happened with the Brazilian National Team, the only one to participate in all editions of the World Cup.

Bad situation for Dunga

The situation isn’t worrying the coach Dunga who participated in three World Cup edition as a player. “You should’ve seen the numbers in my participation. The qualifies didn’t end today, we are only in the sixth round of 18. In 2002, we had difficulties and in 1994, too.”, he said.

Asked if the result against of Argentina threatens his stay in command of the Brazilian National Team, Dunga has shown irritation. “This question was addressed to the wrong person. You have to speak with Ricardo Teixeira (president of the Brazilian football confederation), who is the boss,” he said.
