Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva refuted on Tuesday the criticisms made to the organization of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, which is to take place in the country.

According to the president, some think that Brazilians are ” idiots” and do not know how to make the necessary improvements for the tournament.

“The African Cup has just ended and they have already started asking ‘where are the Brazilian airports?’, where are the Brazilian bus lanes?,” the president said, not elaborating on who “they” are.

“As if we were a bunch of idiots who do not know how to make things, how to define our priorities.”

The pressure for Brazil to make the necessary projects to host the next World Cup has increased in the past month, due to the proximity of the tournament, the fact that many reforms necessary to the Cup have yet to start, and to the problems with airports seen in South Africa.

President Lula also commented on the Rio-Sao Paulo bullet train project. According to the president, the train will be ready by 2016 when Rio will host the Olympic Games. He stressed the importance of the project and the difficulties to make the bullet train possible.

“I think Brazil needs it (the train) and I think that Rio and Sao Paulo need it because they are the most important cities in Brazil,” he said

The public bidding process for the bullet train’s construction will take place in mid-December.

USA 1 x 0 Brazil

In my entirely life I’ve never seen a team play as good as Brazil soccer team played today and even then they lost the game.

United States strategy worked pretty well and they got the second consecutive gold medal in women soccer. In the two occasions they beat Brazil in the extra time.

Brazil soccer team is an example of dedication and hard work for all of us Brazilian people. I’m sure they played with their heart to win the game and bring the gold medal home.

Marta, Cristiane and Barbara wore the ones that suffer the most. Even before the game end they started to cry because they knew that they lost a very good chance to make history.

In soccer what matters is the one who score and not the one who play better. Lesson very hard to learn.

I know that many people doesn’t believe in bible nor in God, however I got this interesting text below from the bible.
This text explain why we can’t never thought we already win before the end.

Eclesiastes 9:11

I have seen something else under the sun:
The race is not to the swift
or the battle to the strong,
nor does food come to the wise
or wealth to the brilliant
or favor to the learned;
but time and chance happen to them all.

One more time the Brazil soccer team didn’t do a good job at the Olympic Games and let the gold medal escape from their hands.

The games was ugly in the first half, none of the teams took the risk to go full power to attack. They knew that one detail would determine the winner of the match. The second half was better for Argentina which scored in the beginning with De Maria.

After suffer the goal Brazil kind of wake up in the game and try to push Argentina. Rafael Sobis with a amazing kick hit the post and Brazil tied the game.

Argentina took the advantage of a weak Brazil team and scored again with Agüero. After suffer the second goal Brazil started to make a lot of wrong passes and comit faults.

Penalty for Argentina

Brazil tried to react, but Argentina defense worked efficiently and did not leave Brazilian move, ending with the dream of Olympic gold. Agüero still had time to suffer a penalty. Riquelme kick in the middle of the goal and kill the game for Brazil.

At the end of the game, Brazil team still had two players expelled. Thiago Neves and Lucas, got the red card and went earlier to the shower, before the final whistle of the referee.

On this Monday, the Brazilian soccer team won the game against Germany by 4 to 1 in Shanghai, and it has already secured at least one medal in the Olympic Games of 2008. On Thursday, Brazil will face the last opponent to go back home with the gold medal, which escaped four years ago in the decision against the United States.

Brazil has never beat up Germany in a official tournament. Last year, Brazil lost in the decision of the World Cup after Marta missed a penalty kick. But the Brazilian girls washed the soul in Shanghai. Formiga, Marta and Cristiane (twice) scored, after being losing by 1 to 0 in the beginning of the game, Prinz scored to Germany.

Cristiane had the best performance. She assist to Formiga score, scored another two herself and left the field celebrated. When she scored the second goal, she danced a little bit. Now, she is the one that has scored more in the history of the Olympics, along with Prinz, with ten. The crowd screamed “olé”, also delighted with the amazing goal of Marta.

On the German side, disappointment. the goalkeeper Nadine Angerer , which never had been beaten by Brazil, caught four balls in the network. Prinz, ex-best in the world, saw that the reign of Martha will be for much longer.

The final will be on Thurday at 10 am (Brasilia) against United States at Workers Stadium in Beijin.

The victory gave Brazil the lead in the group C with 9 points.

On August 16th Brazil will face Comoros in the quarter final of the competition. It brings the Brazilian people a very bad recollection when Comoros eliminated Brazil in the quarter final of the tournament 8 years ago in the Olympic Games in Atlanta, USA.

At that time Ronaldinho was only 20 years old and used to wear the jersey #7, the coach was Vanderley Luxemburgo. The game was equal during the regular time and Comoros won the match with a “golden goal”.

Brazil has never won a gold medal for soccer in history. This is the only title missing from Brazil soccer team collection.

“Start with three points is wonderful. There are five more games, we will grow step by step”, Ronaldinho says, without worrying about the poor performance of the team.

Ronaldinho reiterated that the objective was to win the first game and it was achieved, despite some problems on the field.

“I’m happy because we achieved an important victory having so many difficulties.”

In good physical shape after an intensive training to recover up to the Games in Beijing, Ronaldinho failed to shine. His only kicks on goal weren’t very accurate and didn’t bring any danger to Belgium goalkeeper.

“I have been training to do everything right and help the team.”, completed Ronaldinho.

Olympic Games 2016

The federal deputy Fernando Gabeira (PV), candidate for the mayoralty of Rio de Janeiro, proposed to the President of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), Carlos Arthur Nuzman, this Thursday, that all employees of hotels and taxi companies should study English and Spanish. This would be one of the measures proposed by him to improve the infrastructure of the city to the achievement of the Olympic Games in 2016.

Gabeira argued that the reform of Tom Jobim International Airport is held by private initiative, in addition to the change in signalling the streets of Rio de Janeiro.

Gabeira believes that the legacy of sporting events should remain for the population. “We must transform the practice of sports in the city. We have to be just the scenario of the Olympics. Rio has to develop water sports for example. There are many pools idle in the city,” he said.

Other candidates for the mayoralty of Rio will attend the same presentation. The goal of the COB is starting to partnership with a new mayor that will take possession in 2009, the year that will be decided which city will host the Olympics in 2016.

Alessandro Molon (PT), Eduardo Serra (PCBs) and Jandira Feghali (PC do B) have already made their presentations. Filipe Pereira (PSC), however, could not attend the event as planned. He would accompany the presentation at 11am (Brasilia), but failed. The Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) has not yet announced a new date and time for the next meeting with the candidate.

About the Olympic Games he said “Brazil has never been Olympic champion, will be important to me. I do not believe that this may delay my entry here”.

Ronaldinho said that the number of your shirt has not been defined yet and guaranteed that he is in good physical condition. He also thanked the fans for the reception.

When asked about the expectation of face Internationale de Milan in the biggest classic, he try to avoid. “I think all the matches are important,” he said. He said the Italian Championship “is the most competitive in the world.”

Ronaldinho put the dispute to the Champions Cup as its main objective. Playing for Barcelona he was continental champion in 2006. In the last Italian Championship, Milan was unable to classify for the tournament.

Satisfied after hiring Ronaldinho, the vice-president Adriano Galliani celebrated. “It’s a dream that takes comes true. The President Berlusconi was ‘in love’ with his soccer skills. He overcame brilliantly medical exams”, spoke.

The Brazilian city was announced by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as one of candidates this Wednesday in Athens, in addition to Madrid, Tokyo and Chicago.

Rio de Janeiro attempts for the third time be the host of an edition of the Olympic Games. The only time we had a competitor of the South American continent was in 2004.

On that occasion, Rio de Janeiro was competing with Buenos Aires and were left out in the first phase. Argentina ended among the five finalists to host the Games. However, it was defeated by Rome, Cape Town, Stockholm and Athens, which ended up being chosen to be the host.

Latin America also does not have much tradition to hold Olympic Games. The only time a country organized the biggest sporting event in the world was in 1968, when the Olympics took place in Mexico City.

North America can be proud of having hosted five editions of the Olympic Games. Four of them occurred in North American cities (Saint Louis, Los Angeles twice, and Atlanta) and the other was held in the city of Montreal, Canada.
